Abstract

It is important to know the influence of the characteristic of the granulator and the procedure upon the physical properties of the granulates produced, both from the point of view of the granulator design and the determination of the optimum operating parameters. However, few papers dealing with the above-mentioned questions are to be found in literature. The effect of the following factors: ratio minimum bed height to diameter of bed, degree of expansion of the fluidized bed, degree of dispersion of the granulating liquid, distance of the atomizer as measured from the air distributor and the type of the distributor upon the physical properties of the granulates produced was studied in a laboratory-size fluidized bed granulator of batch operation. In the evaluation of the experiments, the results are compared with the conclusions published in literature and the nearly optimum values for the above-mentioned variables are given.
