Abstract

In this paper a synthesis of an optimal heat exchanger network has been studied to realize the required thermal regime at styrene bulk polymerisation in a continuous operation. The synthesis is realized using a method based on the balance calculations, and supposes: the thermal balance over each chemical reactor, the heat exchanger calculations and the determination of the optimal heat exchanger network. The calculation of the heat exchangers involves the selection of the exchanger type, the choice of the thermal agents and the cost calculation. The optimal heat exchanger network can be obtained by selecting the heat exchanger for each reactor, which corresponds to the technological criterions and has the minimum total cost.
